"Loved Bunnies" Fundraiser

My name is "Peanut Bunner".

I weigh less than 2 1/2 pounds and came from the 2008 Polk County Rescue. My mom absolutely adores me! We cuddle and I give her little bunny kisses on her arms and neck. She tells me I am the cutest, sweetest little thing in the world. I was in a really bad place before, but House Rabbit Society helped rescue me and got me well so my new mom could adopt me. This picture shows me skinny and scared right after I was taken away from bad people. I am much healthier and happier now! Thanks HRS!

We look forward to seeing and reading about your long-eared furkids and bunny-loving people, both past and present.

In memory of my Bunny loving mother "Mae Rohne", who supported me at many a Bunny Expo and Bunny Boutique. Many times she sat and helped me wrap and label bars of soap to sell. She would buy tons of items. She came with me even when she felt bad just so I wouldn't be alone and to help however she could. She worried with me when they were sick and was there for me when I lost my Buster Bunny. This was our last Holiday Boutique as she went to "Rainbow Bridge" herself a little over a month later on Dec. 20th, 2006.

My step father Carl Rohne shown here was also very supportive. Hiding in Santa's basket are "Dottie Wabbit" and "Tasha Lovelump". Mom always loved animals and couldn't stand anyone being cruel to them. I like to think she's at the Bridge taking care of all my kids until I get there....

Molly April 2008 - April 2011 Molly was rescued in the Franklin County confiscation in March 2010. However, it wasn't until March 2011 that she came into our home. When she first came, she refused all food--even treat, so I nursed her back to health with Critical Care. To gain her trust I would sit and talk to her and sing her a song I made up about her: "My ears are big, my face is cute, my name is Molly!". For 3 nights straight I slept on the floor in her room. My efforts worked and Molly began eating a little bit and would even come when I called her. Even though Molly had made progress, she was still losing weight. We only had her for 3 weeks before cancer took her from us, but her and I bonded as I was the only person she would come to. Even in her frail state she still managed to pull off a binky, this let me know that she knew we loved her. Our last night together was torture to my heart strings. We miss her greatly, but we know that she is in bunny heaven with health and sight regained. We miss you Molly, a.k.a. Mols/Good Golly/Miss Molly.

Herman originally come from an unpleasant situation, little "Herman Hopper" is shy but very gentle and sweet. I am amazed that even though so shy, he's very cooperative with nails, bottom cleaning, brushing etc. Herman is a beautiful dwarf Himalayan with his white fur, dark grey points and beautiful reddish-pink eyes which I adore. He's so cute when stretched out on the floor relaxing with his little bunny feet out behind him. He's a doll! Hermy update...he has been adopted and has come out of his shell, is happy and well loved!

My name is Tyler. My mom rescued me 4 years ago when I was 2 years old. I love my picture being taken, being a cuddle bunny, and the attention I get from my family. Thanks to the ladies at the Missouri House Rabbit Society I’m going to get a foster brother or sister this year.

Hopscotch was an adolescent when we adopted him from the Rabbit Shelter, and he had adolescent energy, zipping around the house at Indy 500 speeds. Extremely curious, he had to explore, map, and chart every nook and cranny of our house; we called him our "Little Furry Magellan." He obviously relished the exploration process so much that I created arrangements of boxes, tunnels and bridges for him, and, to keep it interesting, I rearranged the pattern often. As he grew older, he matured into an earnest and gentlemanly rabbit, cooperative and cuddly, perfect about his litter box, happy to be held or to sit on the couch with us. Alas, he died too young, just short of seven, of congestive heart failure.

He was a sweet, dear bun, and we miss him still. Elaine and Don Moser

Twinkie (tan bunny) and Tabitha (black bunny) Twinkie taught me a lot. We all know rabbits are unique animals but Twinkie was extra special; perhaps because he was given so much freedom. He was much like having an opinionated, furry, preschool child in the house. Complete with temper tantrums, weekend illnesses, days when he was totally independent and moments when he just needed to snuggle. He had to investigate and assist with any project I had going in the living room and wanted to checkout whatever I had to eat. He made it clear that meat and dairy were Not for bunnies. He was the king of flops and loved to flop on Tabitha for their afternoon naps. Tabitha was soft, fluffy, patient, and ready to follow Twinkie on his adventures. She filled a hole in Twinkie's life for 3 years; now, he has joined her at the Rainbow Bridge for new adventures. Thelma Miller

Desi was quite simply the best bunny in the world. Everyone who met him felt joy at his antics and soft, soft fur. He loved carrots and to bunsplore his surroundings. He loved to run up and down the hallway and end with a big jump on the couch. He loved to chase Lucy around and steal her treats; she groomed his face, and he loved to groom her tail. Desi loved to sneak outside and hide under the grape vine. He hated cats and loved having his face rubbed. He is missed with a companion soul's grief. Cynthia Gong

In memory of my "Buster Bunny" whose little heart stopped working Sunday, March 12, 2006. You were my first rabbit, abandoned, thin, missing hair, full of lice and afraid. Thank you for trusting me and being my funny little man. Thank you for tolerating my ignorance of bunny culture and etiquette. I miss your sweetness, sense of humor, gentleness, beauty and friendship. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you and wish you were here. Dottie Wabbit was devastated and misses you too. Thank you for bonding with her so she could have a home with bunny love. To me you are the "Best Bunny ever was, ever will be."

To Foo Foo, who passed today 8/17/2011 after a very malignant lymphoma attacked your poor bunny body. You were our first bunny and you made the household complete with your humorous antics and love. As the "Queen of Everything" you ruled the first floor of the house with charm, dignity, good manners and stubbornness. You demanded everyone's attention, disapproved greatly of most behaviors that did not involve feeding or petting you and managed to communicate all this without ever making hardly a sound. Thank you for gracing us with your presence, and "finding us" when you needed out of a bad situation. You deserve all the bananas you can eat, all the pettings you can stand, and all the love you deserve.

"The Girls" - Dottie Wabbit and Tasha Lovelump bring us much joy. Dottie has a pretty, feminine face with a cute little white dot on her nose and is very smart with lots of personality. Dottie is most definately the BOSS! Tasha has a broad head, big broad nose, big fat paws, floppy ears and is easy going. Dottie was devastated when she lost her bondmate "Buster", but thankfully gentle Tasha was available and they have formed a tight bond. It is touching to see them care for each other and sleep snuggled together or lay stretched out flat next to each other. Their antics make us laugh so much their dad calls them the "Hoot sisters", 'cause they're a hoot!

In April 2009, the rabbit community as well as the animal community lost one of its greatest advocates, Amy Espie. As many of our members know, Amy has been with House Rabbit Society since before we were even founded. She was featured in the first edition of the House Rabbit Handbook, and was one of the seven people who initially formed the House Rabbit Society along with Marinell and Bob Harriman back in 1988. Since that time, she's been a fosterer, an educator, our first Education Director, a board member, a sanctuary fosterer, and a House Rabbit Journal writer and editor. Her work to save rabbits, and all animals, will continue to have an impact on the world for years to come. This is our beloved Hedwig. She absolutely loved iced tea, and here she is, trying to get the last drops of tea out of my cup. And it didn't matter if I left my phone and case on the floor - she'd just hop right on top of them to get to the tea. We actually got Hedwig from a pet store, not knowing anything about rabbits. It wasn't until after we had her, that we found the St. Louis chapter of the Missouri House Rabbit Society. We took her to a vet they suggested, and they took excellent care of her as she got older and health problems became more prevalent. We were very lucky she was able to pass on at home, on a towel, in her beloved spot where the sun shined down on her. She was our first rabbit, and she taught us a lot about rabbits and how funny and loving they can be. We miss our little ball of fluff.
